The breed originates from Thailand formerly Siam and appears in historic Thai manuscripts from the Ayutthaya period. They became one of the earliest breeds recognized by CFA in 1906 and helped shape modern cat fancy.

Needs high enrichment , interactive play , climbing spaces , toys , puzzle feeders and regular companionship. It benefits from cat trees , perches and activities such as fetch or lead training and does not do well when left alone for long periods.
Very social and dependent with a strong need for human attention. Often bonds closely to one person and may do better with another Siamese or compatible pet for company.
The coat is low maintenance and usually needs only weekly brushing or combing. Hands can also be used to remove dead hair. Bathing is rarely needed and ears , eyes , nails and teeth should be checked and maintained regularly.
A complete balanced diet with fresh water is important. Weight should be carefully controlled because the breed can show weight gain quickly. High-quality protein , moderate fat and appropriate portions are emphasized and wet or dry food can be chosen to suit the cat.
The breed standard describes a medium-sized , svelte , refined cat with long tapering lines , wedge-shaped head , large pointed ears , almond-shaped blue eyes , long neck , slim legs , long thin tail and a short fine glossy coat. Traditional CFA colors are seal point , chocolate point , blue point and lilac point.
The Siamese has appeared in Thai manuscripts for centuries and helped inspire many later breeds. Notable cultural references include royal legends , film appearances and a White House gift connection.
