History

Written records date back to about 1100 BCE and the breed developed with nomadic cultures of Tibet and neighboring regions as a protector of herds , villages and monasteries. Dogs were historically chained by day and allowed to roam at night as guardians. The breed remained rare outside Asia until the nineteenth century and later American stock was developed from dogs brought from Nepal and India in the 1970s.

Grooming
