Early Himalayans were produced in the United States in the early 1930s through the efforts of Marguerita Gorforth , Virginia Cobb , and Dr. Clyde Keeler. British breeding programs also began in 1935 and resumed after World War II. The breed gained recognition in the mid 1950s and by the 1960s United States registries had accepted it for the show ring.
